Many different opportunities to get involved and help

Volunteering with Brecknock Wildlife Trust

The BWT is a small but efficient Charity that relies heavily on the willing support and help of its many volunteers. Without their help we would not be able to be as beneficial to the county's wildlife.

Is it for me?

We are always in need of new volunteers. If you can spare anything from a few hours every four months to one day a fortnight and want to help your local wildlife charity then we have a position for you. Volunteering with us is a great way to learn more about your local wildlife, meet new people, learn new skills, put existing skills to good use, put something back into the community and play an active part in a dynamic conservation organisation.

You could help with:

  • Reserves work party - meets regularly for a day's practical management of the Trust's reserves.
  • Reserve Warden - help to look after your local nature reserve by acting as a site guardian, keeping an eye on the site and carrying out small maintenance tasks.
  • Species surveys - there are several Special Interest Groups organising surveys and carrying out monitoring to increase our knowledge of the county's wildlife. Contact them for more information.
  • Newsletter - the Trust's newsletter is printed every four months and volunteers help to stuff and deliver envelopes.
  • Education - help is always welcome with running events for children.
  • BWT stand at Brecon Farmers' Market - We urgently need volunteers to help run the stand at the Farmers Market, held on the second Saturday of the month. We also have publicity stalls at other events through the year.
  • Trustee - several committees oversee the running of the BWT and positions on these are often vacant.
  • Other admin tasks - general help with the running of the Trust is often required to keep things running smoothly.
  • School placements - if you are at school or college and would like a week or two’s placement with us to learn more about working with a Wildlife Trust then we can provide you with an interesting set of tasks to help us with.
  • Your own idea? - if you think you can help the Trust in a way not listed above then come and talk to us.
