Nature Reserves Work Party The BWT volunteer Nature Reserves Work Party meets regularly for a day's practical management on the Trust's nature reserves. With over 20 nature reserves to look after there is always something to be done. Tasks range from cutting and raking hay to encourage wildflowers, to installing new path steps to encourage reserve visitors; from coppicing woodland for dormice, to clearing a pond for frogs; from monitoring wild daffodils, to cutting back brambles.
Is it for me?
The most important thing about coming out with the work party is that you enjoy it! You can come along for as long as you like and work at your own pace. None of the tasks are difficult and many hands make light work. We stop regularly through the day to rest and chat and to just enjoy the reserves we are working on. We normally meet on site at 10.15am and we normally leave site by around 3.30pm. What to do nextHave a look at the Events Diary that lists all the up and coming work party days along with all the other Trust's events. If there is a day you want to come along to then contact Phil Sutton, on 01874 625708, or email, to let him know you'll be coming. What to bringYou will need to wear suitable outdoor clothes for the conditions that you don't mind getting a bit dirty or damaged and wear stout footwear. Bring a packed lunch and drink (flask of hot drink on colder days). Be prepared for the conditions; water proofs and suncream may be required in the same day! We will provide all the necessary tools and training to complete the days task. Please noteDates and locations of scheduled work are subject to change due to e.g. weather conditions, changed work priorities or unforeseen events. To make sure you get to the right place on the right day, please contact the Reserves Officer to let them know in advance if you are intending to come out on any of the days listed. Looking forward to meeting you out on the reserves! |
