MAY

Sunday 4th
Talgarth Walking Festival: Pwll-y-Wrach. Join us to explore one of our key reserves Pwll-y-Wrach. Led by botanist John Crellin and a conservationist from the Trust we take a circular route following lanes and paths from Talgarth Mill up to the reserve. It is a great time to open up your senses to the spring flowers and see the magnificent waterfall. However be warned the paths and steps may be muddy and slippery. Booking is through Talgarth Walking Festival. Max 20 people. Email. Meet at Talgarth Mill. Parking in the town. 1pm - 5pm.

Saturday 10th
Dawn Chorus: Llangynidr. Andy King will lead an early morning walk along the canal and river to catch the early birds! Meet at Llangynidr Village Hall car park. SO 156 196. £3 suggested donation. Dogs on a lead allowed. 7am.

Saturday 17th - Sunday 18th
Royal Welsh Spring Show: Llanelwedd. We will be attending this event with a stand. The Royal Welsh Spring Festival, held on the Royal Welsh Showground at Llanelwedd, features all manner of farming and horticulture related activities. Smallholders can share experiences, learn new techniques, explore ideas and enjoy themselves in an environment devoted to practical small holding activities, including how to get started.

Monday 26th
Caer Beris Manor Hotel National Garden Scheme: Builth Wells. LD2 3NP. Come and find us at the NGS Open Garden to get wildlife gardening advice. Admission charge for NGS. Suitable for people with limited mobility and some parts accessible for wheelchair users. Contact Stephanie at the Trust or email her.

: Brechfa Pool, Llandefalle, LD3 0NL (Grid ref SO 118 377). Control of invasive crassula helmsii. Wellington boots required. Limited numbers only. Leader: Steph Coates. 10.15am - 3.30pm.

: Ystradfawr, Ystradgynlais, SA9 1SE (Grid ref SN 796 108). Control of bracken and himalayan balsalm. Leader: Steph Coates. Meeting point to be confirmed. 10.15am - 3.30pm.

Saturday 14th
Come and find wildflowers at Craig y Ciliau: Nr. langattock. SO 185 168. Come and explore Craig y Ciliau National Nature Reserve looking at the wealth of wildflowers and other wildlife that live there. This event is for members of BWT and the Wildflower Society only. A walk of about 4 hours over uneven ground with cliffs, caves and drops. Booking advisable. Please wear stout footwear. 10am - 2pm.

: Cae Eglwys, Sarnau, LD3 9PR (Grid ref SO 025 333). Cutting bracken in this lovely wildflower meadow with magnificent views. Leader: Phil Sutton. 10.15am - 3.30pm.

Saturday 12th
Botany at Berthllwyd Farm: Nr. Penderyn. SN 913 132. A joint meeting with the Botanical Society of the British Isles. Come and explore this National Trust property and its magnificant meadows and other habitats. Five generations of the same family have farmed Berthlwyd –and it's this long standing intimate relationship with the land that's created and sustained a wonderful mosaic of habitats. Open to BWT and BSBI members only. Booking essential, phone the Trust on 01874 625708. 10.30am

Wednesday 6th
Bats at Brecon Promenade: Brecon. LD3 9AN. SO 042 287. A family event and for those with limited mobility or wheelchair users. Learn about bat ecology, watch their behaviour and hear echo-location with bat detectors. Bring a torch and insect repellent. This is an event for everyone over the age of 5 years. In partnership with Brecknock Bat Group, Brecon Beacons National Park Authority and Vincent Wildlife Trust. Meet on the promenade where the rivers Honddu and Usk meet, next to Kensington car park. Booking required through Brecon Beacons National Park Authority on 01874 623366. 8.30pm - 10pm.

: Vicarage Meadows & Cae Pwll y Bo, Abergwesyn, LD5 4TP (Grid ref SN 850 526). Cutting and raking the sward to maintain these nationally important wildflower meadows. Meet by the river Irfon bridge in Abergwesyn to go to Vicarage Meadows first. Leader: Phil Sutton. 10.15am - 3.30pm.

Saturday 6th
Fantastic Flora: Allt Rhongyr Nature Reserve, Penwyllt. SA9 1GE. SN 852 156. A ramble suitable for all ages but, unfortunately not for wheelchairs. Walk for about a mile around the nature reserve with botanist John Crellin where we hope to see the Autumn Gentian. We will be able to see the work done here by the volunteers and the ponies that graze the reserve. Meet at the entrance to the reserve with parking on the roadside. 10.30am - 1pm

: Ystradfawr, Ystradgynlais, SA9 1SE (Grid ref SN 796 108). Scrub clearance to maintain the rhos pasture. Leader: Steph Coates. Meeting point to be confirmed. 10.15am - 3.30pm.


OCTOBER

Tuesday 7th
Reserve Work Party
: The Byddwn, Pen y Waun & Trewalkin Meadow, close to the east of Brecon. Cutting and raking the sward to maintain these small wildflower meadows. Meeting on the roadside at LD3 7SU / SO 087 277 to go to The Byddwn first. Leader: Phil Sutton. 10.15am - 3.30pm.

Saturday 18th
Fungal Foray: Priory Groves, Brecon. With local fungi expert David Mitchell. Meet at Brecon Cathedral, LD3 9DP. Please do not use the Cathedral car park but one of those in the town centre. Donation £3 per person. Suitable for all ages. Contact Clare Morgan at the Trust. Not suitable for those with limited mobility or wheelchairs. No dogs allowed. 2pm.


NOVEMBER

Wednesday 6th
Cotswold Outdoor Clothing: Cotswold shop, Brecon. BWT members only. Trust members can take advantage of a 20% on the night discount on full price items and enjoy a glass of mulled wine and mince pies provided by Cotswold Outdoor. 6pm - 8pm.

Wednesday 12th
BWT AGM & Presentations: Peterstone Court, Llanhamlach, Brecon. Join us for our 50th Annual General Meeting and presentations from staff. Sponsored by Peterstone Court. 7pm.


DECEMBER

Friday 5th
Christmas Meal: TBC.
