Wednesday 17th

WALK: Brecon Bat Walk With Brecknock Bat Group. Learn about bat ecology, watch their behaviour and hear echo-location calls using bat detectors. Bring a torch and wear insect repellent. This is a family friendly event suitable for everyone over the age of 5 years. Will not go ahead if constant rain. Friday 19th

Reserve Work Party: Tree & bramble clearance at Wern Plemys Nature Reserve. Helping to clear a windblown oak tree and some bramble clearance from around the field entrance to improve access. Meet at layby near SA9 1PT and walk to site via cycle route on Neath Road (Grid ref SN 7907 0925). Wear appropriate clothing, strong footwear, bring a drink and lunch. Thursday 25th

Learning: Fencing Training Course. (day 1 of 6) This FREE course is aimed at beginners new to the fencing industry and those seeking training and experience for a possible career in forestry, agriculture, grounds maintenance, horticulture, conservation and other land based industries. This course will provide basic knowledge and practical experience in fencing, as well as Manual Handling and Emergency First Aid at Work training, which will be accredited. The course will be delivered 1 day a week, on a Thursday, over a period of 6 weeks. The first session will be held on Thursday 25th August at the Well-being Centre in Ystradgynlais. Friday 26th

WALK: If you go down to the woods today... A family guided walk, suitable for families with young children, at Craig-y-nos Country Park, exploring the woodland and river wildlife along the way. Bring a packed lunch to enjoy alongside the river or at the picnic area, followed by some river dipping for mini beasts other woodland activities. Please wear sturdy footwear/boots and bring your favourite teddy! Meeting place: Craig-y-nos County Park car park (tariffs may apply) SA9 1GL. Toilets and café on site. Booking is essential. Free transport from Ystradgynlais town can be provided. Please dress appropriately for weather conditions, including good sturdy footwear and bring a bottle of water. Start 10.30am. Reserve Work Party: Marsh Fritillary Survey at Ystradfawr Nature Reserve. Marsh Fritillary habitat and larval web monitoring: Learn a simple habitat survey technique that helps us to monitor our sites. Participants will get training from BWT and Butterfly Conservation staff and will take part in the survey work. Meet on Weaver's Road, SA9 1PQ (Grid ref: SN 791 098). Volunteer Thank You Day at Allt Rhongyr Nature Reserve. Brecknock Wildlife Trust relies upon the hard work and dedication of its committed volunteers. We would like to say a big thank you to each and every one of the Trust's volunteers and welcome them all to attend an informative and enjoyable day at Allt Rhongyr Nature Reserve. There will be a range of activities such as moth trapping, surveying and guided walks, as well as foraging and cooking around the campfire. Please bring salads and breads to share, the Trust will provide drinks and be cooking hot foods on the fire. Meet at site gate in Penwyllt, SA9 1GE (Grid ref SN 852 156). 10am - 3pm. Reserve Work Party: Hay cut and rake at BWT The Byddwn, Pen y Waun and Trewalkin Meadow Nature Reserves, around Brecon. We will be cutting and raking the hay at these three small meadow sites to benefit the wildflowers and other wildlife they support. Sunday 16th

Apple Tasting & Pick Your Own

Come and visit this collection of local and rare apple varieties set up and cared for by the Marcher Apple Network. A leisurely tour of the orchard tasting apples and learning about the history, ecology and care of the trees. Bring your own pen knife and plastic bags for taking some home. EVENT: Wild About Gardens. Join us and learn about how you can make your garden a little wilder and more attractive to all sorts of wonderful wildlife. Suitable for all ages. 2-4pm. Followed by WALK: Guided Bat Walk. at Ystradfawr Nature Reserve, where we hope to catch a glimpse of these magnificent creature, and hear their calls on our bat detectors too!
