The Wildlife Year: The Gallery, Wyeside Arts Centre, Builth Wells, LD2 3BN - An evening with Trust Chairman, Keith Noble. Suggested donation £3 per adult. 7pm - 9pm.

Tuesday 14th
Wacky Wildlife Games and Natty Nest Boxes: Llangors Village Hall (Grid ref: SN 796 108. ) - Wildlife games and trails, make a nest box (there will be a charge of £3 for bird boxes going home). Watch members £3, non-watch £4, under 5's free. Under 8's must be accompanied by an adult. 1pm - 4pm.

Wednesday 11th
Easter Eggstravaganza and Woodland Safari: Llangasty Village Hall - Learn about nature's babies, play seasonal games, art and craft and eggy fun, plus a look at what's stirring in nearby woodland. Bring lunch, coat and wellies. Grid ref: SO 124 259. Watch members £3, non-watch £4, under 5's free. Under 8's must be accompanied by an adult. 10.30am - 3.30pm.

Sunday 22nd
Private Nature Reserve Walk: Derwendoppa (grid ref: SO 072 351) - Come and join us to explore this smallholding where the owners have created five new ponds. In keeping with the season we will be mainly looking at the amphibian life in these ponds with a short talk to illustrate Derwendoppa's wildlife and how it is managed. Suggested donation £3 per adult. 10am - 1pm.


MAY

Saturday 5th
Know your bird song: Pwll y Wrach nature reserve, Talgarth (grid ref: SO 173 236) - An entertaining and informed walk through the nature reserve to listen to the dawn chorus, led by Andrew King. Meet at Arosfa (GR SO 173 326) where parking is available, above Pwll y Wrach reserve for a 2-3 hour walk. Cost £5 includes a bacon butty. 7am - 10am.

Tuesday 15th
Reserves Work Party: Wern Plemys, Ystradgynlais - Kissing gate and bench installation to improve access and enjoyment of this reserve. Meet at Diamond Park car park, grid ref: SN 788 092. 10.15am - 3.30pm.

Sunday 20th
Butterfly Walk in association with Butterfly Conservation: Ystradfawr, Ystradgynlais - Join us for a wander around the reserve looking for the rare marsh fritillary butterfly. Learn about its lifecycle and habitat requirements and how the site is being managed to protect the populations here. Meet Hendreladus SA9 1SE (grid ref: SN 796 108). Suggested donation £3 per adult. 1pm - 3pm.

Saturday 26th
Flora Walk: Henallt Common and Cadwgan Farm - Looking at the flora on Henallt SSSI common and the Cadwgan Farm wildlife sites. Open to anyone with an interest in botany, volunteers or potential volunteers for the Road Verge Nature Reserve surveys or other botanical recording. Led by Stephanie Coates and John Crellin of Hay U3A botany group. This event is weather dependent. Meet at 10am at Hay main car park (pay & display) (grid ref: SO 229 422). We will then car share to take the minimum number of cars to the starting point. Bring a packed lunch and suitable clothing. Walk about 3 km with some steep slopes. Suggested donation £3 per adult. 10am - 3pm.


JUNE

Friday 1st
Cairns and Ferns on Cefn Cil-sanws: Merthyr Tydfil - A joint Fforest Fawr Geopark Festival event. Join archaeologist Edith Evans and wildlife expert Phil Sutton on a 5.5 mile (9km) exploration of a rocky mini-mountain with several extraordinary stories to tell. From Bronze Age burial sites to Britain's rarest tree and some fossil ones thrown in too for good measure. Total ascent: 250m. Meet: Merthyr Tydfil golf club car park, Cefn Coedycymer (SO 030 084). Please wear appropriate outdoor clothing as this site is very exposed. Please do not bring dogs. Suggested donation £5 per adult. 10am - 4pm.

Wednesday 6th
Reserves Work Party: Cae Pwll y Bo, nr Abergwesyn (grid ref: SN 854 512) - Monitoring the fantastic display of globeflowers at this site in the lovely Irfon valley. 10.15am - 3.30pm.

Friday 8th
The geology of the Upper Swansea Valley: Craig - y - Nos Country Park - A joint Fforest Fawr Geopark Festival event looking at the geology of the Upper Swansea Valley and how it affects biodiversity. Meet at Craig-y-Nos country park car park (pay and display) (SA9 1GL, grid ref: SN 840 155). Bring lunch and appropriate outdoor clothing. Please do not bring dogs. Suggested donation £3 per adult. 10am - 3pm.

Reserves Work Party: Allt Rhongyr, Penwyllt, SA9 1GE (grid ref: SN 852 156) - Bracken cutting to promote wildflower growth. 10.15am - 3.30pm.

Saturday 16th
Mini Beast Safari: Vicarage Meadows nature reserve, Abergwesyn - As part of National Insect Week, come and discover the many different creepy crawlies that live in this reserve and the important role they play. Meet at 10am by road bridge over the river Irfon in Abergwesyn (gird ref: SN 850 526) for a leisurely amble led by Phil Sutton, Reserves Manager. Suggested donation £3 per adult. 10am - 12pm.

Mammal Detectives: Pwll y Wrach, Talgarth (Grid ref SO 162 328) – Come and help us discover which mammals live in this ancient woodland reserve. Develop your skills in how to spot the clues and evidence different mammal species leave behind. We may even be lucky and see some live creatures up close. Led by Phil Sutton, Reserves Manager and keen mammal spotter. Wellies advisable for crossing the river. Meet at the main reserve car park for 10am. Suggested donation £3 per adult. 10am – 12noon.
