Allt Rhongyr - a dramatic site, lying adjacent to Craig y Nos Country Park at the head of the Tawe Valley within the Brecon Beacons National Park. Now designated as a new nature reserve to benefit wildlife and free for people to enjoy!

A BIG THANK YOU for all your help

By 25th December 2011 we had managed to raise a fantastic £7,564 towards our ambitious target of £30,000 to help support the purchase of our new nature reserve, Allt Rhongyr and part of Craig y Rhiwarth (site of special scientific interest). This included a very generous donation of £5000 from the Peoples Postcode Lottery.

Why we needed your help?

The Trust received generous grant funding from the WREN Biodiversity Action Fund and the Countryside Council for Wales which covered most of the cost but a large shortfall had to be covered by the Trust which meant digging deep in to its own reserves to enable the purchase of this new nature reserve.

The Trust was asking for help to claw back this shortfall to enable us in the future to be able to react quickly to safeguard similar important sites for wildlife and people.

Over 98% of our wildflower grasslands and 50% of our ancient woodlands have been lost during the life of just one generation! The purchase of Allt Rhongyr has enabled the Trust to safeguard a bit of the Tawe Valley for current and future generations to enjoy but there are other threatened sites out there we want to help in the future.

If we are fortunate enough to raise more than the required amount then the excess would be put towards the future management of the sites, the development of the Upper Tawe Valley Living Landscape Project or similar projects.
